London Indian restaurant slapped with one star hygiene rating still has fans
Londoners are defying a horrific food hygiene rating by flocking to an Indian restaurant given a grim one-star ranking.
Food hygiene ratings are given by the Food Standards Agency, and are often thought of as the main reason why punters will be turned off from a place.
And while a one star ranking can mean that a place is filthy beyond belief, it can also have nothing to do with hygiene and just be a paperwork issue instantly failing them.

Bindaas in Bexleyheath was given the one out of five rating in June.
The venue has refused to comment on why it was given the rating but the report from the FSA states that improvement was necessary when it comes to “cleanliness and condition of facilities and building”, and to its “hygienic food handling”.
It was told that “major improvements” were necessary when it comes to management of food safety.
But despite all of that, the place is proving to be extremely popular, if online reviews on TripAdvisor are anything to go by.
As recently as last month, one wrote: “Fantastic food, highly recommend the lollipop chicken, will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes.”
And a second, who captioned their review with “great food”, wrote: “Excellent dining experience. “Food was great, authentic and service was superb.
“Recommend the chole batura, and the butter chicken was also amazing.”

The place only has seven reviews on TripAdvisor, with five of those being five out of five ratings.
It also has over 200 Google Reviews, with many positive including this one: "Will definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone but only one suggestion, most of the food we have tried (chicken curry, mutton curry, dal makhani and few others) all are bit salty in taste.
"Maybe you can do little but work around that."
However there are some negative reviews on Google Reviews.
One said: "Water jug was sticky, spotty, and it looked unclean – staff had to be told to change the used side plates when the mains arrived.
"Serving etiquette missed here."

And another person claimed: "My wife and close family friends raved about the food at this place. Highly disappointed by my £55 takeaway yesterday. Empty place yet the order was not complete after 2 hours of placing it.
"When we reached home found that one of the items were missing. On top of that I was embarrassed to offer this food to my friends. Terrible, overcooked and seemed more like the food has been cremated rather than cooked."
There were also reviews complaining about slow service and two saying they found "black hair" in food.
The Daily Star has reached out to the restaurant for a comment via its website.
