Lidl staff STUNNED to find Central American tree frog in box of bananas at UK supermarket

Staff at the shop in Netherfield, Nottingham, found a tree frog from Costa Rica in a box of bananas.

It had come more than 5,300 miles (8,500km) from its rainforest home in the Central American country.

Stunned workers found the exotic creature on top of the bananas as they unloaded fruit onto the shelves.

They alerted the RSPCA about the tree frog — which they named Lloyd — who were sent to recover it on Sunday.

Daily Star Online has approached Lidl for comment.

RSPCA officer Hayley Day said Lidl staff “seemed quite taken” with Lloyd.

She added: “He must have also had quite the shock when he emerged in a Nottinghamshire supermarket considering he’s used to more tropical climates usually.”

Sharing a picture of the frog on Twitter, RSPCA Nottingham’s picture attracted a lot of interest.

Les Floyd joked: “Aw, I hope he goes back to his tree frogs back home or meets some sexy new ones here.”

Usually nocturnal and famous for their red eyes, Lloyd unsurprisingly looked bleary-eyed as he was held in an RSPCA worker’s gloved hand.

This isn’t the first time an unexpected visitor has snuck in through someone’s shopping.

One Brit shopper found a huge nest of spiders in a bag of Tesco bananas.

While a terrified mum discovered a venomous spider in a bag of bananas from Lidl which gives victims “painful erections”.
