Leicester named as city where your home is most likely to be invaded by spiders
You may be a big spider fan, or a spider invasion might be your worst nightmare.
But whatever you feel about them, spiders don’t make the best flatmates in our opinion.
If you’ve noticed more of the creepy crawlies lately, you aren’t just imagining things.
We’re in spider mating season – which means millions of the eight-legged creatures are heading indoors for warmth.
Spiders are the most active during autumn, so during September, October and November you’ll likely see more of them.
Unfortunately, our homes are the perfect, dry environment for them to hide in.
The team at SellHouseFast has compiled a list of the 10 UK cities where spiders are most likely to invade your home.
1. Leicester
If you live in the city of Leicester, it’s bad news – you’re most in danger of being invaded by spiders.
According to the research, there are 228 different species of spiders.
The most common spider found in Leicester is the Nursery Web Spider.
The Araneus Diadematus, also known as the Garden Spider, is also commonly found in Leicester.
Although extremely rare, it has been known to occasionally bite when aggravated.
2. St Davids
The second highest amount of spiders recorded was in St Davids in Wales.
The most common spider found was the Antistea Elegans.
If you live in St Davids, keep an eye out for the Labyrinth Spider, of Agelena Labyrinthica, which can bite if aggravated.
3. Swansea

Third on the list in Swansea in Wales.
The most common spider found was Dolomedes Plantarius, known as the Great Raft Spider.
Be vigilant if you live in Swansea, because a Labyrinth Spider was recorded – an on rare occasions their bites can cause allergic reactions.
4. Westminster
In the city of Westminster, the Chthonius Ischnocheles species is the most common spider.
There have also been recordings of the Garden Spider, which are grey-brown in colour with a white cross on their back.
They are known for the spiral webs they create to catch prey.

In fifth place is the city of London.
Similar to Westminster, the Chthonius Ischnocheles species was also the most common.
According to data by IRecord Surveys, there has been a recording of the species of the Argiope Bruennichi, better known as the Wasp Spider.
These creatures are capable of biting, but are not a serious risk to humans.
6. Norwich
In Norwich the most common spider found was the Bathyphantes Gracilis.
According to the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads Invertebrate Data, two species of the Labyrinth Spider have been recorded in the city.
These can be spotted by its central pale brown stripe.
7. Canterbury

Canterbury came in at seventh place, with the most common spider being Bathyphantes Gracilis.
One of the infamous Wasp Spiders were also recorded by IRecord Surveys.
8. St Asaph
In St Asaph in Wales, the most common spider recorded was the Ixodes Vespertilionis.
The Argyroneta Aquatica, better known as the Water Spider,were also found to reside in St Asaph.
They are the only known spider to live almost entirely under water.
They are only known to bite when mishandled, with the bite being compared to a bee sting.
9. Chester

The most common spider found in spider was the big bodied Antistea Elegans.
As with Leicester and Westminster, the Garden Spider can also be found among one of Chester’s spider species, as recorded by the Welsh Invertebrate Database.
10. Gloucester
In 10th place is Gloucester, with the most common species being the Chernes Cimicoides spider.
Other recordings included the infamous Garden Spider.
