Humberside Police are treating his death as unexplained, a spokesman said: “Gary Simpson was sadly found dead on Cleethorpes beach on May 17.

“Mr Simpson, from Leeds, was last seen at his rented accommodation on Strathmore Court in New Waltham around midnight on May 15.

“We are appealing for anyone who might have seen Gary between these times.”

Detective Sergeant Mick Keech said earlier this week that a post-mortem examination and forensic tests proved inconclusive as to the cause of Mr Simpson’s death.

Mr Simpson’s sister, Anne Simpson, said his family have been left “heart broken”.

She told Leeds Live: “Gary was well loved, a great boxer years ago and he loved Leeds United.

“This has cut my family up and we only lost our mum four years ago.

“That’s all I can say at the moment – he was loved.”
