A 28-year-old barber used an elderly man’s disabled badge to park outside his salon. 

Sean Jones was ordered to pay £348 after he was spotted parking in a disabled bay outside the Jack the Trim barbers in Llanelli, south Wales.

When quizzed by council officers he told them the badge belonged to his girlfriend but refused to allow them to call her to back up his statement.

He later admitted the badge belonged to an elderly man and pleaded guilty to using a disabled blue badge that did not belong to him at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court.

He was fined £250, ordered to pay £68 in costs and a £30 victim surcharge. 

Cllr Philip Hughes, Executive Board Member for enforcement, said: ‘Blue Badges are issued to support genuinely disabled people, not as a parking free for all.

‘This offence has proved far more costly for this man than a pay and display parking ticket, and I hope that this is a lesson learned.’

Blue badges were introduced in 2000 and allow disabled drivers to park in wider parking bays located closer to shops and buildings.
