Lad shot dead by cops outside his old school in horror stand-off

Derrick Bopape, 25, was locked out of the building in the Mpumalanga Province in South Africa, and hurled bricks into classrooms as pupils cowered.

Police rushed to the scene and a tense stand-off ensued last month, captured in horrifying footage.

Bopape runs at a police van and smashes one of the windows with a brick before hitting a police officer over the head.

Another cop then pulls out his pistol and fires three shots at Bopape, bringing his rampage to an end.

“One minute doctors said he was recovering well and then the police arrived at the house and told us ”

Mpumalanga Department of Education spokesperson Jasper Zwane said: “A former pupil went to the school to see the principal and when he was told no he turned violent.

“He started throwing bricks destroying the schools windows and police were called in to help but the intruder attacked them with bricks until he was shot in the leg.”

South African Police Service spokesman Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said the man had clear intentions to inflict “deadly injuries” to the female officer in the police van.

He explained: “She had to dive trying to dodge the rain of bricks that the suspect hurled at her on the passenger side and someone how the perpetrator managed to open the door of the van.

“It was during that process that the member fell out of the vehicle sustaining minor injuries but the perpetrator carried on his crazy actions so the officer had to use force.

“He had no other option than to use force by shooting him.”

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate has been informed of the incident and will conduct an investigation based on the footage.
