Labrador puppy ‘shot in face for wagging his tail’ before dying, claims owner
The owner of a black Labrador claims her puppy died after being shot in the face by her neighbour – who has since been charged with aggravated animal cruelty.
Jess Buxton, from Danville, Vermont, claimed her "sweet and gentle" one-year-old pet Berkeley was likely just wagging his tail at the man after being let out to go to the toilet.
The dog-lover says her four other canines returned to the door quickly, but she started to panic when Berkeley failed to show up.
He eventually managed to make it back to the house hours later in an extremely sorry state and later died at the vets after being rushed in for emergency care.
She alleges 72 year-old Frederick Keenan blasted him in the face with a gun.
A devastated Jess told local station NBC5: "He probably was just wagging his tail, saying ‘hi’ to him… that was my boy.
"He just shot him in the face."
Keenan has since been charged with aggravated animal cruelty and is due to appear in court in December.
After his death, a grief-struck Jess now wants to campaign for animals.
She said: "My life mission from this point on is to fight for these dogs.
"When something actually happens to you, you can’t even describe it."
