A man has been rushed to hospital after ‘stabbing himself’ in front of horrified shoppers at an Asda this morning.

Emergency services were called to the supermarket in Leeds at around 6am with witnesses describing the scene as a ‘bloodbath’.

The man sustained serious, but not life-threatening injuries.


Police were called to an Asda in Leeds this morning, pictured, after a man ‘stabbed himself’ in front of horrified shoppers 

One witness told the Yorkshire Evening Post: ‘A customer stabbed himself…they closed the store as police and ambulance were there and there was blood everywhere.

‘Not a nice sight to see up there. It was shocking for staff to see.’

The shop was briefly closed but has since reopened and staff are being told to come into work as normal.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: ‘At 5.57am today police were called to a report of an injured man at Asda, in Killingbeck Drive, Leeds.

‘The man was taken to hospital with injuries that are serious but are not believed to be life threatening.

‘Officers are satisfied this has been a self-harm incident with no other person involved and there are no suspicious circumstances.

‘The scene is now being released to allow normal business to resume at the store.’
