Kingston police blocked off Rideau Street near Montreal Street for a criminal investigation on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, one person was sent to hospital as a result of the “disturbance.” The Kingston police watch commander would not say whether anyone was in custody, but did say officers were still on scene investigating a “serious crime.”

Police would not elaborate on what that disturbance was, but according to a Kingston police media notice, officers were first called to the scene to respond to a fight.

This would fit with reports from people near the scene, who told Global News that several people were seen fighting in the area.

Police also would not comment on the condition of the person who was injured, or how they were injured.

Forensic teams were on site, and several homes were cordoned off by police tape. No law enforcement officials at the scene would agree to an interview.

Although police said there was no immediate danger to those in the area, they asked drivers to use an alternate route while officers investigated the scene.
