The killers of a gangster shot dead during a pool party at a £1 million Surrey mansion remain at large five years on amid a wall of silence and fears of retribution, an inquest heard.

Ricardo Hunter, 34, died from a single gunshot wound at the dancehall and reggae bash in the leafy village of Headley, Surrey in the early hours of July 25, 2016.

A 36-year-old woman also suffered a gunshot wound to her leg and had to be taken to hospital.

Despite a three year investigation, police never found the killer who remains at large despite repeated appeals, including on Crimewatch.

One witness, who was next to the victim when he died and "no doubt" would have known who killed him, never spoke to cops.

Officers said their difficulties arose from a "culture thing" with witnesses fearing retributions from rivals if they gave anything away.

An inquest in Woking, Surrey heard the Jamaican-born victim, from Crystal Palace in South London, was a member of the 'Sharp Edge Crew', who had descended on the party alongside their rivals the 'Brixton Hill Boys'.

The bash, organised by Jamaican dancehall rapper Jason White and his girlfriend Summerlyn Farquharson, had been widely advertised on social media.

It quickly descended into violence between London-based gangsters.

The woman was shot first at 2.25am that morning, before cops got another call saying: "We have another, I think he has gone, it has gone straight through him" less than 10 minutes later.

DC St John of Surrey Police said: "At around midnight the atmosphere got worse and at 2.25am several witnesses said they heard a sound which they thought was a gunshot.

‘"Police went to the scene and were confronted by a stampede of people leaving.

"The victim was on the floor in the back garden with a gunshot wound in his chest. Attempts were made to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at the scene just before 3am.

"This comprehensive investigation took place over three years with a team of officers viewing hours of video footage from the scene.

"Of the many people we spoke to, some have refused to engage with police, the majority have refused to provide statements and many have not told the police the truth.

"It appears to be a culture thing due to a perceived risk of retribution from gangs if they speak to the authorities.

"We are dealing with a community who are not willing to engage and see carrying a gun as normal behaviour and are involved in a culture and environment where shootings are not uncommon.

"There was nothing further the police were able to do."
