Britain's "worst mum" Karen Matthews has been urged to ditch her paedophile fiancé by angry friends and family.

Convicted kidnapper Matthews has reportedly been given an ultimatum by those closest to her after she moved in her sex offender lover Paul Saunders, 57.

The 44-year-old made headlines in 2008 after police launched a major search operation for her daughter Shannon, 9, who she had reported missing in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

Shannon was later found alive and well at a house belonging to 39-year-old Michael Donovan, who was the uncle of Matthews then boyfriend Craig Meeghan.

Matthews and Donovan were found guilty of kidnapping, false imprisonment and perverting the course of justice, and the disgraced mother was released in April 2012 after serving half her sentence.

After her release, Matthews moved to a location which cannot be revealed for legal reasons, and found love with paedo Saunders.

She is reportedly now engaged to the convicted abuser and furious friends and relatives who had given her a chance after she came out of prison have cut her off.

Defiant Matthews has now moved Saunders in to her home and a former friend told The Sun "a line has been crossed" and people no longer have "anything to do with her".

He told The Sun: "She has got no friends where she lives any more because of Saunders.

"People have ditched her because she refuses to kick him out.

"She lied to people that she was going to do so – but he has been living there full-time from where The Sun broke the story about her engagement.

"To see a paedophile move in any neighbourhood is just disgusting.

"Some people believed she should be given the time to prove she had turned over a new leaf after she got out of jail.

"But this relationship is a line that has been crossed.

"People don't anything to do with her if she is still with him."

Saunders is a convicted paedophile, on the sex offenders register, jailed for five years for abusing a child.

In 2010, he admitted engaging in sexual activity with a teenager, making indecent images and two counts of sexual assault.

He was arrested last month on suspicion of failing to follow rules in place so authorities can keep track of him.

He has been released under investigation.

Matthews and Saunders met when he did repairs at her flat, which she moved into after her release.
