Juan Serrano, suspect in fatal Father’s Day shooting, turns himself in to Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office

The suspect in the death of a man shot on Father’s Day in Aurora is in custody.

Juan Serrano, 24, turned himself in to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Thursday. He is suspected of shooting Esteban Lopez, 30.

Lopez was shot on Father’s Day, June 19, at a house in Aurora. He was taken to the hospital, where he died July 7 from his injuries, investigators said.

Aurora police had been looking for Serrano since Lopez died. They believe that a dispute during a family gathering at the house led to the shooting.

The night of the shooting, Serrano was arrested and taken into custody on investigation of first-degree assault. He posted bond and was released June 20, according to the sheriff’s office.

Serrano was due in court for an advisement hearing July 19.
