Jose Gautreaux identified as NYPD lieutenant shot in Bronx precinct house
The Bronx lieutenant who was shot in the arm by a brazen cop-hating gunman has been identified as Jose Gautreaux, according to police sources.
The lieutenant was shot just before 8 a.m. when a gunman walked into the 41st Precinct house in Hunts Point on Sunday. He was taken to Lincoln Hospital where he was expected to be OK.
The 15-year veteran’s gunshot wounds “narrowly missed” any vital structures and he is expected to make a full recovery, NYPD officials said.
Cops swarmed the gunman — who could be seen surrendering to police after diving behind a desk in a dramatic series of videos from the lobby of the station house — and was taken into custody.
Police sources identified the man as Robert Williams, who has had multiple run-ins with the law, including a homicide accusation.
The shooter was believed to be the same man who ambushed another 41st Precinct cop while he sat in a marked police van in the Bronx Saturday night — less than 12 hours earlier.
Gautreaux was promoted to lieutenant in June 2018 after being a sergeant for seven years.
