PM Boris Johnson declared “Jabs Army Needs You” as he hailed the “tremendous work” of our 50,000 volunteers so far.

They signed up in droves last year after The Sun teamed up with the Royal Voluntary Service.

But 50 towns, cities and council areas are desperate for extra help as new vaccine centres open.

Scientists warn that plans to take the final step out of lockdown hang in the balance due to surging rates of the Indian strain.

Ministers have increased jab efforts — vowing to offer both doses to everyone over 50 by June 21.

As Britain enters a crucial stage of the rollout:

  •  A MAJOR OECD report said Britain’s economy is on course for a “sharp rebound” this year;
  •  TWICKENHAM rugby stadium was turned into a massive walk-in jab centre for the day yesterday, and;
  •  ALL under-30s are due to get jab invites this week.

Meanwhile, a top government scientific adviser yesterday said Britain may already be in a third wave.

Prof Ravi Gupta told the BBC: “There has been exponential growth in new cases, at least three- quarters are new variant.”

But bosses warned that many businesses are hanging on “by their fingernails” and desperately need social distancing restrictions to be axed.
