John Bolton slams ‘Obama-style’ deal between US and Taliban

The ink was barely dry on a US-Taliban deal Saturday when President Trump’s former national security adviser blasted it as “unacceptable” and “Obama-style.”

Signing this agreement with Taliban is an unacceptable risk to America’s civilian population,” John Bolton tweeted only hours after the historic agreement was signed in the Qatari capital Doha. “This is an Obama-style deal. Legitimizing Taliban sends the wrong signal to ISIS and al Qaeda terrorists, and to America’s enemies generally.”

The Taliban ruled Afghanistan when the US started bombing the country a month after the 9/11 attacks.

The militant Islamist group harbored Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda, making it possible for the terrorists to plan the plot that used hijacked commercial aircraft to take down the World Trade Center and crash into the Pentagon. A fourth plane, believed headed for the US Capitol, crashed in Shenksville, Pennsylvania, after the passengers fought back against the hijackers.

Bolton, who resigned in September, was a vocal opponent of negotiating with the Taliban while he was in the White House.
