Jogger ‘shoves seven-year old-girl towards canal’ angering furious family

A jogger has allegedly been "shoving everyone" including kids towards the water on a canal path.

Gaby Soutar fumed on Facebook after claiming her seven-year-old niece was dangerously pushed aside by a runner during their family walk near Harrison Park in Edinburgh.

Instead of apologising, Gaby's sister and mum-of-three told Edinburgh Live that the jogger yelled back, "you should have looked where you were going".

Another runner told the family it was not the first time they had watched them shove a pedestrian.

Her sister, Louisa, said: "She was just in such a hurry and we were just enjoying the canal watching the ducks, she pushed Iris to barge her out the way and my sister Gaby shouted at the woman.

"She didn't even apologise, then she turned around and shouted 'you should have looked where you were going' even though Iris was doing nothing wrong.

"I shouted back 'she is only seven years old', she had been flying past and just pushing people out of her way, Iris is only wee and clearly only seven years old, it's not like she could have mistaken her for an adult."

Louisa added that someone who had been behind the frantic runner stopped to inform the family that the woman had been "shoving everyone in her path" despite the area being busy with families on lockdown walks.

"They both could have fell in the canal," added Louisa.

Gaby wrote on Friends of Harrison Park: "While walking on the canal path today, a jogger (about 30, with blonde bob tied back and blue and pink patterned leggings) shoved my seven year old niece and told her to watch where she was going.

"The woman running behind her said she has been shoving everyone in her path. Anyone else have the pleasure?"

Horrified locals responded to the news, with Sharon Wright saying: "The canal is really busy just now but absolutely no excuses for that! I hope your niece is okay. This women would defo be having her own loony dook in the canal if she did this."

Jette Goldie added: "She'd have been tripped by my stick and would have found herself in the canal if she'd tried shoving me.

Ozzy Medcalf questioned: "Why did the runner behind not pull her up if she'd done it a lot? we all have to share that path, especially the bit between Fountain Park and Harrison, whether bikes, pedestrians, runners – which is way too narrow for social distancing anyway – all it takes is a bit of consideration all round."
