The Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn is institutionally anti-Semitic, according to a study.

It found the leadership has failed to prevent the party hosting hatred of Jews or to weed out a deep-rooted culture of anti-Semitism denial.

Interference by the leadership in disciplinary cases also shows Labour has failed to tackle its problem with racial hatred against Jews, the study said.

It was conducted by Professor Alan Johnson, senior fellow at the British Israel Communications and Research Centre, who looked at 130 examples of anti-Jew hatred.

A Labour spokesman said: ‘We completely reject claims of institutional anti-Semitism.

‘This is full of factual inaccuracies, baseless claims and personal opinions, to which the party was not afforded the opportunity to respond.

‘We completely reject claims of institutional anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism complaints received since April 2018 relate to about 0.1 per cent of our membership, but one anti-Semite in our party is one too many. We are determined to tackle antisemitism and root it out of our party.’

A source said: ‘This is not an academic study and basic principles of research have not been applied. Alan Johnson is not based at a university or academic institution. He is a staff member at the Britain Israel Communications and Research Centre.’
