TWISTED cannibal murderer Jeffrey Dahmer kept a stomach-churning collection of body parts in his 'house of horrors', including a severed head in his freezer and a huge drum full of male torsos.

The psycho serial killer filled his cramped apartment in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with a number of gruesome trophies, taken from the 17 young men and boys he slaughtered and dismembered throughout his 13-year crime spree.

After Dahmer was eventually arrested in 1991, he admitted to saving human leftovers and freezing the parts for him to eat later.

But beyond his sick cannibalistic desires, 'The Milwaukee Monster' confessed to his grotesque plans to build a "bone altar" out of the skeletons of his victims.

Crude, childlike drawings revealed his rough designs for such an altar, including painted skulls and skeletons arranged around a black table, incense, and a chair arranged in front it for sick rituals.

Cops searching his apartment took photos of the graphic finds they made, revealing the depths of his depravity.

Several pictures show portions of human flesh wrapped up like meat in Dahmer's fridge.

Another photo shows the condiments he used to flavour his meals of human flesh.

Other pictures taken by Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department show a range of saws, hammers, knives, and other tools with which he chopped his victims up.

Police also found barrels of acid used to dissolve the remains of his victims.

Four severed heads were found in his kitchen along with seven bleached skulls in his bedroom.

Two entire skeletons were also recovered.

Among the other trophies Dahmer kept were several boxes of bones, a freezer containing male genitals, lungs, and intestines, and a human heart that he admitted to police he planned on eating.

So many human body parts were found in the apartment, the medical examiner noted at the time, that "it was more like dismantling someone's museum than an actual crime scene".

In his confession to cops, Dahmer said he found sexual pleasure in the body parts he collected from the victims he found particularly attractive.

He also admitted to having sex with many of his victims, as well as masturbating over their dismembered corpses.

His grisly habit of keeping parts of his victims with him, even taking the severed head of one man in a jar to work with him, partly came from his fear of abandonment, according to psychologists at the time.

Dahmer's first victim, hitchhiker Steven Mark Hicks, was invited back to Dahmer's home for beers.

But when the 18-year-old tried to leave, the killer said he became enraged and struck him with a barbell before strangling him to death.

He told police that he murdered his victims because he couldn't bear to see them leave.

Dahmer was quoted in a homicide detective's report as saying: "It was better to have them with him dead than to have them leave."

He added that his killings stepped up after he was fired from his job and that the corpses "kept him company" while he was home alone.

The police report also said Dahmer justified his evil cannibalism on similar grounds.

Eating parts of his victims, it said, "was his way of keeping them with him even longer and making the victims part of himself".

Dahmer also took pictures as he slaughtered his victims, keeping vile Polaroid pictures of their dismembered bodies.

When cops finally snared the killer, they uncovered at least 80 chilling photos in his lair – some depicting necrophilia.

In keeping his grisly "trophies", Dahmer shared similarities with notorious British serial killer Dennis Nilsen.

Both Dahmer and Nilsen killed their victims because they wanted "unresisting" bodies they could freely possess.

When police raided Nilsen's flat in Muswell Hill, north London, they discovered a skull, a section of torso, and various bones in a tea chest.

Nilsen admitted to a similar "fear of emotional rejection and failure" which stemmed from his being bullied at school.

Dahmer also carried out grisly experiments on his victims to try and turn them into his "love zombies".

He would drill holes in his skulls and pour acid solution or boiling water onto their brains, hoping that this would render them unable to leave his apartment.
