Innocent woman shot and her dog Henry killed in botched gangland hit as cops hunt masked gunmen – The Sun

AN innocent woman was shot and her dog killed in a botched gangland hit last night.

The 52-year-old passerby was blasted in the hand as she walked her pet Henry at 7pm.

Her white Maltichon was shot dead when three masked men armed with guns and a knife pulled up in a Ford Focus and started shooting in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire.

Their target, 27, was rushed to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Cops are hunting the gang who fled the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Gillian Grant, senior investigating officer, said: "This was completely reckless and the fact this happened in a residential street shows the suspects had a complete disregard for the safety of the public.

CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE

"A woman who was simply walking her dog has been left absolutely devastated."

Emergency crews, including armed officers, locked down Brunswick Gardens in Bellway Homes estate last night.

Terrified locals reported hearing gunshots in the area.

One said: "I've got armed police at the end of my street.

"I heard two loud bangs about an hour ago and I think it is related. I think someone has been shot."

Another added: "Heard what sounded like two gunshots a wee while ago."
