Iconic 90s toy makes comeback as Furbie Christmas tree ‘appears in London’

This Christmas, festive firs are transforming into Furbtrees causing a buzz on the internet.

Over the weekend, videos featuring London's renowned Covent Garden evergreen decorated with owl-like creatures went viral. The creative Furby takeover also landed in Paris's Boulevard Haussmann (Place Diaghilev), and Berlin's Brandenburg Gate.

Fans in the UK have been expressing their excitement over social media. The cuddly robot toys from the 90s, which made quite a name during their first stint, are making a comeback across Europe after being relaunched earlier this year.

In its initial three years, more than 40 million units were sold. The toy is known for initially speaking "Furbish" and gradually learning to use English words and phrases as it is interacted with.

With millennial parents getting nostalgic, these furry friends are expected to top kids Christmas wish lists again this season. The video has since been shared on TikTok, gaining more than 31,000 likes, via the official Furby account.

The caption said: "What could this be…? OOH-KAH-TEE! Furby taking over world this holiday season. Can noo-lahs spot Furbtrees all over world?"

Social media users have been left stunned by the clips as they took to the comments declaring their love for the childhood favourite. One user said: "I’m getting one for Christmas."

Another commented: "Omg I need this in my life." A third wrote: "I love this!!!" Meanwhile, a fourth added: "It's a Furby Christmas y'all."

However, if you're planning a visit to check out the Furbtrees, the enchanting spectacle was created with augmented reality. The artificially intelligent programme blends reality with computer generated images.

Earlier this year, toy giant Hasbro announced that the furb-nomenon that took over the world has returned. Today's kids can now discover their own curious little creature and kindred spirit as the toy hit shelves in the summer of 2023.

The interactive toy friend features five voice-activated modes and over 600 responses to discover, including lights, sounds, and 10 unique songs. Tell Furby what you want to do with 5 commands – “Dance Party,” “Cop Cat,” “Tell My Fortune,” “Let's Chill,” or “Lightshow” – for an un-fur-gettable time that matches any mood or vibe.
