‘I feared for my life as easyJet cabin crew screamed for the brace position’

Shocked passengers on an easyJet flight from Gatwick Airport were left fearing for their lives after a cabin crew member suddenly shouted “BRACE!”.

The terrifying situation happened on a flight heading towards Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Mum-of-two Emma Game was travelling with husband Daren and children Maddi, 17, and 16-year-old Carrick at the time.

But 15 minutes after taking off, disaster struck when staff told of an issue with the hydraulics and landing gear.

However, they were told everything was 'fine', but this turned out not to be true.

Speaking to The Mirror, Emma said: “You could see the fear in their eyes.

“We then waited for what felt like forever to come down, considering how quickly it took to go up."

The cabin crew confirmed they would need to do an emergency landing and told the passengers to assume the brace position, which resulted in one of the crew continuously shouting "brace! brace!" as the plane came into land.

“The four of us all held hands,” Emma went on.

“I didn't know if we were going to make it back to the runway.

“I've never been so relieved to finally reach the ground."

“The worst thing was not knowing what to expect.”

Thankfully, despite the drama, the plane landed safely at a different airport, as it had diverted, and everyone received a message from the airline apologising.

They passengers were given just £6 compensation in vouchers each, which had to be spent at the airport they were now waiting it.

They ended up flying off again a few hours later, but the experience has left Emma traumatised.

She said: “An extremely traumatic experience and one I never wish to have again.

“The cabin crew were absolutely amazing and although you could see the fear in their own eyes they maintained their composure and emotions to keep all passengers reassured.”

An easyJet spokesperson said: "easyJet can confirm that flight EZY6427 from London Gatwick to Dubrovnik this morning returned from airborne due to a technical issue.

"The captain performed a routine landing in line with procedures and the aircraft was met by emergency services at Gatwick as a precaution only where passengers have disembarked.

"The safety of its passengers and crew is easyJet's highest priority and easyJet operates its fleet of aircraft in strict compliance with all manufacturers' guidelines."
