A dump truck barreled into a crash scene on the side of a New Jersey highway, smashing into a fire truck, an ambulance and a police SUV Tuesday morning — leaving two New Jersey state troopers hospitalized, cops said.

The crash happened at 10:22 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-280 near Mount Pleasant Avenue in West Orange and closed all eastbound lanes, police said.

The troopers were out of their cruiser investigating an accident when they were hit, according to police.

The extent of the injuries to the two troopers, who were rushed to a nearby hospital, was unknown, but a State Police spokesman said that “the troopers were alert and conscious.”

Multiple pedestrians were also injured in the accident, but not seriously, according to State Police.

The truck driver remained on scene, authorities said.

The eastbound side of the highway was closed as of 12:18 p.m. and westbound traffic was limited to one lane, with more delays caused by rubbernecking drivers, according to authorities.

Police did not release any additional information.
