Caroline Crouch’s husband allegedly put his screaming baby next to her corpse as part of a cover-up, according to prosecutors.

The 20-year-old, who had British citizenship, died in front of her 11-month-old daughter in their home in Athens, Greece, on May 11.

Her husband, Charalambos "Babis" Anagnostopoulos, previously told police that he was tied up by three robbers who broke into their home in the early hours, put a gun to his child's head, strangled his wife, and then made off with £10,000 in cash.

But the 33-year-old helicopter pilot has since been charged with murder after allegedly confessing to the killing.

Greek investigator Nikos Rigas told state TV that Anagnostopoulos had "tried to create a crime scene…that looked convincing".

"The dog was killed, and his baby was placed next to the body of the murdered mother," Rigas said.

Police claim he suffocated his wife with a pillow.

Anagnostopoulos’ brother has stayed on the island of Alonissos, where Caroline spent most of her life after her parents settled in Greece, to "comfort her parents."

A friend told SunOnline: "He is in a state of shock and absolutely distraught.

“All of his sympathy is with Susan and David. He wants nothing to do with his brother."

Anagnostopoulos is also accused of drowning the family's pet dog and hanging it from a banister.

His supposed lies were uncovered after police examined the couple’s mobile phones, a fitbit, and a camera.

Anagnostopoulos claimed he was tied up by robbers, but they had proved he had been moving around the house, Sky News reported.

Police reportedly flew by helicopter to Alonnisos, where a memorial was being held for Caroline, after making a breakthrough in the case.

They then flew Anagnostopoulos back to Athens, where he is said to have made the confession after more than eight hours of interrogation.

In a tweet posted on Thursday, June 17, Greek Police claimed the "33-year-old husband" of a "20-year-old native" killed in Glyka Nera on May 11 had confessed to her murder.

Police claim his entire story was fabricated and allege that Anagnostopoulos killed Ms Crouch after threatened to move out along with their daughter.

Anagnostopoulos' lawyer Vassilis Spryou told Skai news: “The only thing that interests him is his child.

"His main concern is his child's future because he has heard different things about his child going to a foster family, that he will lose her from his life."
