Hundreds of private jets have been used by mega-rich passengers to enter the UK from coronavirus hotspots – The Sun

A total of 545 private jets have landed at UK airfields from affected countries since March 23.

Data supplied by WingX, an aviation consultancy, shows 25 were from Spain, 27 from France and 32 from Germany. A total of 15 private jets have also arrived from America, which has the world’s highest Covid-19 death toll at 40,000.

More than 15,000 passengers are still flying into the UK each day on ordinary flights and no routine tests are carried out on arrival.

Operators should do due diligence on those hiring private jets to ensure they meet government rules on essential only travel.

But some rich passengers are reportedly being misleading, claiming they are travelling to family homes rather than second or holiday homes.

The UK still has an open-borders policy while 130 countries have bans.

Professor Gabriel Scally, of epidemiology and public health at the Royal Society of Medicine, said it was “hard to understand” why the UK kept an open-borders policy, calling it “peculiar”.

During lockdown, 767 private planes have left from UK airfields, including 115 from London Farnborough, known for its “discretion and bespoke service”.
