Human remains have been found on two separate properties in the San Luis Valley and multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, are investigating the discoveries.

The remains, found in Conejos County, are being analyzed “as part of the identification process,” according to a CBI news release.

The sites where the remains were found are both near the sparsely populated area of Lasauses, also know as Los Sauses, a 19th Century stagecoach stop. “The property owners are not currently living at these properties,” the release said.

Additional law enforcement agencies in the investigation are the Conejos and Saguache counties sheriff offices, and the Alamosa and Monte Vista police departments. A news conference has been scheduled on Wednesday.

In August, the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office and the CBI searched for an Aurora man, who was visiting family in the area, and did not return home.

The remains of Wilbert Archuleta, 39, were found on Sept. 19 in Lasauses, according to the Conejos County Citizen.

The CBI, in the news release, said the discoveries do not appear to be connected to Suzanne Morphew’s missing person investigation, “but all possibilities are being considered.”

Morphew, a Chaffee County woman, was reported missing May 10 from her home near Maysville. Local authorities, CBI and the FBI are investigating the 49-year-old woman’s disappearance.
