Nantong University postgraduate student Chen Lilong said he carried out the disgusting act, punishing his defecating pooch named Caomei, while it yelped in agony, according to reports.

Classmates of the Lilong – who is aburn centre intern at the university’s affiliated hospital in East China’s Jiangsu Province – have accused him of regularly punishing his pet whenever he is criticised by his supervisors.

They also claim he starved another Shiba inu – a small dog native to Japan – to death, and that he allegedly often posts videos of similar sadistic animal abuse by captioning his footage: “Here’s my latest work.”

The horrific minute-long video – posted under the same gleeful caption on April 10 – shows the sick student lifting the kettle of boiling hot water from his kitchen and walking over to the cage where the animal is kept.

“Universities are for the cultivation of talented individuals, and not meant for this type of brutality and cruelty.

“Those who abuse animals also pose a threat to other students and teachers, especially as [China] has yet to implement an ‘Animal Protection Act’.

“The university should therefore seek to set an example by taking a zero-tolerance stance against animal abuse.”
