One woman who was left alive can be seen standing and holding her arms up in horror after the gunmen have left.

Before they left, the killers took all of the cash left on the pool tables, stealing a purse belonging to one of the victims.

Police Lieutenant Romening dos Santos Silva said the mass murder was triggered by petty revenge after the pair became furious when they were mocked for losing.

After their first defeat, they went to get more money, only to lose again on their return.

Lt Silva said: "The way it happened, it is clear that some victims may not even have been involved with the game that was taking place at the establishment."

Sinop is a small city of around 200,000 people in central-west Brazil, just under 600 miles northwest of the Brazilian capital Brasilia.
