Horrifying images of ‘tortured’ seal and turtle wrapped in plastic highlight horror of world’s plastic waste crisis

HORRIFYING images of a “tortured” seal and turtle has been released to show the dangers waste plastics pose to marine life.

The campaign launched by Marine conservationists Sea Shepherd shows a plastic bag suffocating a seal and a turtle.

It was launched in partnership with Tribal Worldwide Brazil and DDB Guatemala, and the campaign will also provide useful tips on how to reduce plastic use.

Executive creative director at Tribal Worldwide São Paulo Guiga Giacomo said : “Unfortunately a small and thoughtless action in our daily life can cause huge damage to nature without us even realising it.

“In this campaign we aim to remedy this by reaching the largest number of people possible, bringing awareness to the fact that with small and easy steps, we can ensure that terrible scenes like these do not happen.

The shocking 3D images were created by Notan Studios.

The US branch of Sea Shepherd also run a campaign called “Operation Clean Waves” which cleans up marine debris that is found on offshore islands in the ocean.

They have also joined forces with scientists to find out the impact micro plastics have on marine species.

Sea Shepherd founder and president, Captain Paul Watson, said: “Scientists warn that in 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish in the sea.

“Sea Shepherd is committed to preventing this from happening – because if the oceans die, we die.”
