Horrifying footage shows hundreds of splattered chicken carcasses covering M5 motorway
The gory footage shows around 200 carcasses covering the busy stretch near Exeter, Devon.
A person behind the camera can be heard gasping: “Oh my God, they’re everywhere.”
Another repeatedly mimics throwing up at the disturbing sight.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the incident yesterday afternoon was caused by the chickens falling from a lorry.
It caused four and a half miles of queuing traffic and delays of 45 minutes, with motorists being diverted at junction 29.
At the time, passenger Natasha Yates said: “The smell is revolting and we have been queued back from Taunton Dean services for over an hour.”
Another couple, on their home to Paignton from Nottingham, were close to throwing up at the sight.
The driver, who asked not to be named, said: “The chickens were already dead. We don’t want to upset anybody.
“It wasn’t so much the smell that upset me.
“It was the sight of all the dead chickens and their innards and giblets all over the road in front of me that made me feel sick.
“They were everywhere. It was really horrible.”
The stretch of the motorway reopened late last night.
