Hong Kong protestor catches fire in another incident caught on video
Shocking footage shows a protester engulfed in flames Monday amid escalating clashes on the streets of Hong Kong — the second such horrifying case in just one week.
The umbrella-toting protester is seen fleeing to the sidewalk and trying to stamp out the flames as a group of others rush to extinguish him or her.
As demonstrations turn increasingly violent, protesters — who’ve been launching Molotov cocktails at police — have been arming themselves with umbrellas to shield themselves against police water cannons.
It was not immediately clear how seriously injured the burn victim was.
The horrifying incident came exactly a week after protesters were caught on camera setting a man on fire after he confronted them to express his disapproval of their revolt.
As a camera rolled, one of the protesters doused him with liquid — and he was quickly lit on fire. He survived by ripping off his t-shirt but was left in critical condition.
The latest fire video came as clashes boiled over in the autonomous Chinese territory, with police in riot gear firing rubber bullets and tear gas as hundreds of protesters remained holed up in a university campus.
Police arrested 154 people over the weekend, and an officer was also struck in the leg by an arrow.
The US, UK and Germany all raised concerns at the latest violence — with Chinese officials threatening a potential intervention.
“If the situation becomes uncontrollable, the Chinese government certainly will not sit on our hands and watch, we have enough resolution and power to end the unrest,” warned Liu Xiaoming, China’s ambassador to Britain.
