Highlands Ranch native Ethan Horvath and a pair of Colorado Rapids got the call for the final round of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, schedule for March 23-31.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper will join the U.S. Men’s National Team for its final three matches in qualifying, while Rapids Mark-Anthony Kaye (Canada) and Bryan Acosta (Honduras) will suit up for their respective national teams as well.

This marks the first time Horvath has been called in to national team duty since the 2021 Nations League Finals in June, when he made a penalty kick save late in extra time to secure a 3-2 win over Mexico.

Horvath has been playing well with his club, Nottingham Forest, in English soccer’s second-tier league. He recently won the starting job and has posted four clean sheets and three wins in that stretch. There’s a chance he could see the pitch with Matt Turner out and Zack Steffan returning from an injury with his club, Manchester City.

The USMNT needs five points out of a possible nine to secure a spot at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar this year. The U.S. men will face Mexico at Estadio Azteca on Wednesday, host Panama on Sunday in Orlando, Fla., and head back to Central America for a match against Costa Rica in San Jose on March 30.

Kaye, a central midfielder, has been instrumental in helping Canada reach the verge of qualifying for its first World Cup since 1986. Kaye has made 32 appearances for the Canadian Men’s National Team with two goals and seven assists. Canada sits atop the standings and is undefeated through its first 11 matches with 25 points.

Acosta has appeared 56 times for Honduras, including 10 World Cup Qualifiers. “Los Catrachos” currently sit last in the table with three points and are already eliminated from qualification.

Games will be aired on Paramount Plus, while Sunday’s USMNT-Panama match will be televised on Fox Sports 1. Spanish-language games will air on TUDN (Univision Deportes), or Telemundo.
