  • Fire services found the calf and managed to winch it off the cliff with a helicopter

This is the moment firefighters pull off an incredible rescue of a cow stuck on the side of a rocky cliff face.

In a meticulously planned operation, Italian emergency workers were able to attach the calf to a helicopter and airlift it to safety.  

The rescue was recorded in mountains surrounding the town of Volturara Irpina in the Campania region of the country.

In the footage, a group of firemen are seen making their way down a steep cliff face, using guy ropes to avoid a nasty fall.

Coming in to a clearing, one of the firefighters is able to locate the stranded cow that is now too weak to move.

Rather than attempting to drag the calf back up to where it came from, another of the crew direct a helicopter overhead and lower a harness to secure the animal in.

Within seconds the exhausted cow was airborne, kicking out only slightly as it felt its feet leave the floor. 

After a short journey to a safe landing spot on a football field, the helicopter gently guides the calf to the ground, but without any strength it legs quickly collapse beneath it.

The video ends with crew members stroking the confused cow’s ears as it began to recover from the rescue operation.
