Harry is ‘outrageous and disgusting’ for comparing Meghan to Diana

Prince Harry has been slammed by an ex-royal aide for his "outrageous" comparison between Meghan Markle and Princess Diana in a new Netflix documentary.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex saw the first three episodes of their six-part series, simply titled Harry and Meghan, land on the streaming platform today amid a flurry of controversy.

In a polarising trailer for the show, apparent comparisons were made between Meghan and Princess Diana, with footage of the late People's Princess shown alongside accusatory quotes from the Prince.

Harry can be heard saying: “It’s a dirty game. The pain and suffering of women marrying into this institution – this feeding frenzy.”

The Prince then adds: “I was terrified. I didn’t want history to repeat itself.”

More images of Princess Diana fleeing the paparazzi are seen alongside the narration, with newspaper headlines describing her "secret suffering" in the 1990s flashed across the screen.

The comparison between Diana and Meghan has caused uproar, with former Palace staff members claiming the couple never experienced the kind of press intrusion Harry's late mother did.

One claimed the Sussexes hadn't revealed the incidents led them to step down as working royals and start again in America, because "there's nothing there".

The palace aides called on the Duke and Duchess to use the documentary to finally explain their position and outline the facts in their “emotional narrative”, according to the Telegraph.

The source told the publication: “This is all a narrative. They say ‘everything changed’, but what do they mean?"

The source went on to brand the narrative spun by Harry and Meghan as "lazy" and "outrageous", adding: "It’s as if the facts no longer matter at all.”

Harry and Meghan have also come under fire from critics, who say that the series is an attempt by the Sussexes to "escalate the royal war".

Writing for news.com.au, expert Bronte Coy said the trailers made it appear the couple were missing a golden opportunity to finally tell their story.

"Harry and Meghan are free, living a privileged existence most could only dream of, with the world at their feet and every opportunity to have a lifetime of happiness," she wrote.

"With so much negative press dogging them in recent years, and a feeling of being misunderstood, here was their great opportunity: to flip the script and simply show the world who they are and what they care about.

""Instead, it appears we’re getting another round in the endless Sussexes v Monarchy war," she added.
