Harry hints he and Meghan will ‘never’ give up royal titles in explosive chat

Prince Harry has angrily dismissed the suggestion that his and his wife Meghan should give up their royal titles.

In an interview for US TV’s 60 Minutes, he told interviewer Anderson Cooper that nothing he had written in his controversial memoir Spare was intended to hurt his family.

He added that every time he had tried to speak privately to his father and brother about the issues within the family, negative stories about him and Meghan had been deliberately leaked from within Buckingham Palace.

Asked why they didn’t walk away from the royal family altogether, and renounce their titles as Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry simply replied: “…and what difference would that make?”

Dismissing suggestions that some of the things he had written about William were “cutting,’ Prince Harry said: “My brother and I love each other, I love him deeply…. But, he added, “there has been a lot of pain between the two of us, especially over the last six years.

“None of anything that I’ve written,” Harry stressed, “is intended to hurt my family”.

He says that a large part of his adult life has been taken up with learning to cope with the death of his mother, Princess Diana.

He described how he had been seduced by conspiracy theories about that fateful night in Paris in August 1997.

He reveals that he had comforted himself with the idea that Diana was not actually dead… that she had somehow faked the car crash in order to disappear.

Harry says he pored over unpublished photos of the crash scene, and how royal aides stopped him from looking at some of the grisliest images for his own good.

He also confessed that he and William had begged their father not to marry Camilla, now Queen Consort, and complains that she had “sacrificed him” on her PR altar in order to rehabilitate her image with the public.

But he still hopes for a reconciliation with the King and the Prince of Wales.

"I think there’s probably a lot of people who, after watching the documentary and reading the book, will go, how could you ever forgive your family for what they’ve done?" Harry told ITV’s Tom Bradby.

"People have already said that to me.

"Forgiveness is 100% a possibility because I would like to get my father back. I would like to have my brother back."

But, he added: "At the moment, I don't recognise them, as much as they probably don't recognise me."
