Harry and William have ‘no time to build bridges’ on flying visit for funeral

There will be no time to heal the rift between Princes Harry and William, predicts one royal commentator, if the Duke of Sussex races home shortly after Prince Philip’s funeral as expected.

Angela Levin, author of Harry: Conversations with the Prince, says that "as the brothers aren't meeting before the funeral there won't be any time to build even the smallest bridge if Harry shoots back home".

She added that it’s unlikely that Harry will be able to spend much time with his family if he travels back to the US soon after the funeral as expected.

"Doesn't bode well for family conversations," she tweeted. "Perhaps he feels too self-conscious."

Despite not having self-quarantined for the full 10 days after arriving in the UK by the time Prince Philip’s funeral takes place on April 17, Prince Harry will still be allowed to attend his grandfather’s funeral on compassionate grounds.

For now, the Duke of Sussex is remaining at Frogmore Cottage, Windsor, while the Duke of Cambridge and his family are in Sandringham for the Easter holidays.

According to veteran royal reporter Katie Nicholl, the split between the two brothers began around Christmas 2018, when Harry told William that he hadn’t been doing enough to make Meghan feel included in the royal family.

She quoted a source as saying: "Harry felt William wasn’t rolling out the red carpet for Meghan and told him so.

"They had a bit of a fallout, which was only resolved when Charles stepped in and asked William to make an effort.

"That’s when the Cambridges invited the Sussexes to spend Christmas with them," she added.

Since then, according to Nicholl, things have been rocky between Princess Diana’s sons, mainly because Harry was so protective of Meghan and sprang to her defence whenever he thought she was being criticised.

At one point, for example, Nicholl told a TV documentary that "William was quite concerned that the relationship had moved so quickly.

"And being close to Harry, probably the only person close enough to say to Harry, 'This seems to be moving quickly, are you sure?'"

She says that Harry saw that as his brother "not really being behind this marriage, this union, and I don’t think things have been quite right ever since".

With so few opportunities for them to have a heart to heart chat and clear the air, the "feud" could rumble on for years.
