Harry and Meghan ‘set christening precedent’ as Lilibet’s tipped for September
Royal commentators have predicted that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could set a new "private" Royal christening precedent that other couples might follow.
The couples’ eldest child Archie was christened at 2 months old, the age daughter Lilibet will reach at the start of September, leading to royal commentators speculating it could occur within days.
Speaking on the Royally Obsessed podcast, hosts Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie observed that we are yet to have seen a royal christening so far this year.
But they predicted that this will not necessarily make the christening of Lilibet a large, social affair.
They suggested that the current Covid situation means “it doesn’t seem likely” Harry and Meghan would fly back to the UK.
Rachel recalled: “I remember the christening photos for Archie and how beautiful they were and how the family was all together.
“I would love it, but I’m so curious how you execute these things in Covid times.”
It was suggested, however, that even before the impact of coronavirus restrictions, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had hinted at a shift towards a more private approach.
Roberta claimed: “It could be private. And I feel like Harry and Meghan did set the precedent for private even before Covid with Archie’s christening.
"They released the photos they wanted released and they didn’t really let the press there.
“So we’ll see if other Royals follow that or not.”
On that note, Roberta and Rachel listed the other royal christenings we might expect to see this year.
Rachel said: “We have Zara Tindall, Eugenie and Meghan, so I’m wondering who will be first.”
The hosts noted that Princess Eugenie’s baby August Phillip Hawke Brooksbank’s christening was postponed due to a Covid scare in July.
They also predicted that we can expect to see Zara Tindall’s baby Lucas christened early in the new year.
Rachel continued, “Zara christened Lina and Mia – their two older kids – at nine and ten months old, so that would put us for Lucas at December or January.”
