Harry and Meghan Markle ‘wanted Megxit freedom compromise but Queen refused’

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had allegedly wanted to find a compromise in their exit from the Royal Family but they were "crucially" blocked by the Queen.

This is according to a new book, Valentine Low's explosive Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind The Crown, which details the roles and lives of the people behind the scenes in the Royal Family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex departed for the US to begin their lives as private citizens in 2020 and were allowed to leave the Firm on the conditions they became financially independent and didn’t use their HRH titles, the Mirror reports.

At the time, the Queen said they had been “dedicated” and thanked them for their work, adding: "It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life.”

But the new book claims that they had wanted to live abroad and also continue to be serving members of the Royal Family.

The Queen, however, is understood to have stopped this request from becoming reality.

An extract from the new book, expected to be released October 6, says: "They wanted to find a compromise whereby they could live part of the year abroad but carry out some royal duties at home. No such compromise was found.

"Crucially, it was the Queen who took the view that unless the couple were prepared to abide by the restrictions that applied to working members of the royal family, they could not be allowed to carry out official duties.

"One source said: 'There was a very clear view: you can’t be in and out. And if you’ve got such clarity of view, it’s very difficult to say, ‘Why don’t we go 10 per cent this way instead of 20 per cent?’

"Compromise was off the table, removed by the Queen."
