Prince Harry and Meghan will launch their own podcast series in the new year, Spotify has announced.

In an exclusive deal with streaming site Spotify, the royal parents will release a Christmas special episode later this month.

It is understood they will each host their own shows and have a hand in producing other series.

The pair are yet to announce what they will be discussing on but it is thought Harry’s podcast will focus on veteran issues and Meghan’s on gender equality.

Harry and Meghan confirmed their move into entertainment on Tuesday having created their own audio production company called Archewell Audio.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a joint statement: "What we love about podcasting is that it reminds all of us to take a moment and to really listen, to connect to one another without distraction.

"With the challenges of 2020, there has never been a more important time to do so, because when we hear each other, and hear each other's stories, we are reminded of how interconnected we all are."

In starting Archewell Audio, the couple are following in similar footsteps to that of the Obamas who this year launched Higher Ground, signing a deal with Spotify.

Since leaving behind royal duties at the beginning of 2020, Harry and Meghan set out to be financially independent.

Their first big money deal was announced in September when they signed a multi-year production deal with Netflix.

Former Suits actor Meghan also narrated the documentary "Elephants" on Disney+.

Spotify said in a press release on Tuesday that the two "will host and produce podcasts that build community through shared experience, narratives, and values."

Securing exclusive content from the retired royals is the latest statement move by Spotify which has been building its podcast empire one big name at a time.

Joe Rogan’s show can now only be streamed on the platform, which is also working with Kim Kardashian and the DC Comics brand on exclusive deals.
