‘Half-naked bloke hiding ‘truncheon’ with cop hat on Tinder not ours’ says force

UK police forces have denied a naked man wearing just a stab-proof vest in a racy snap on his Tinder profile ever worked for them.

Following an investigation, both Merseyside Police and Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that the bloke covering his manhood with a uniform hat, is not and never was an employee.

Journalist Dr Rebecca Tidy shared a screengrab on Twitter of the bloke looking for love online who completed his kinky policeman look with a truncheon and a hat covering his modesty.

While Rebecca censored his face with an apple emoji, what remained of the Tinder user's identity was his name, Liam and age 34.

The singleton was also just 20km (12.4miles) from the West Country-based researcher, leading her to ask the local authorities if Liam was in their ranks.

Rebecca captioned the screengrab of his dating profile: "Hey @DC_Police. One of your lot? I decided against swiping right".

Devon and Cornwall Police responded to the tweet saying they were looking into it and have since closed their investigation.

According to Rebecca, the authorities explained that Liam was in fact the housemate of a serving policeman and went behind his back to pose for a photo wearing half his uniform.

Updating her followers on the force's line of inquiry, Rebecca commented: "My loves. The trusted folk at @DC_Police reliably inform me that this TOTALLY IS NOT a police officer on Tinder.

"In fact, a poor, unsuspecting cop fell victim to a scam whereby his housemate TOTALLY SECRETLY stole his uniform + posted a selfie on Tinder for shits + giggles."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police previously said: “We are aware of an image circulating on social media showing a partially clothed man with police equipment.

"The image was reported to the professional standards department at Merseyside Police in May 2020 when it appeared on social media after it had been shared on a dating app.

“Following an investigation it was established that the man pictured was not – and has never been – a police officer or a member of police staff.

"The man was wearing police equipment belonging to a serving Merseyside Police officer in the photograph. The officer was not present at the time the photograph was taken or aware it was being taken.

"He was given advice by our professional standards department and the man who posted the image on a dating app later removed it on the officer’s request."

The spokesperson added: "Our dedicated professional standards department thoroughly investigate any allegations of misconduct by anyone employed by the force.

"It is essential that police officers and staff act with respect, professionalism and integrity at all times and that as a force we take swift and robust action to investigate anyone whose behaviour falls short of those high standards.”
