Hack of pro-Trump app GETTR sees 'emails and info from 90,000 GOP allies EXPOSED' just days after launch

HACKERS have reportedly scraped emails and personal information from 90,000 users of pro-Trump social media app GETTR in the days since its July 4 launch.

The hackers have taken advantage of the app’s bugs to gain access to usernames, email addresses, and the location of thousands of users, according to reports.

The social media platform was launched by Donald Trump’s former spokesman Jason Miller on Sunday.

He has touted GETTR as an alternative to “cancel culture” after Twitter permanently banned Trump from its site earlier this year and Facebook suspended the former president for two years.

It followed similar suspensions from Snapchat, YouTube, and other platforms for Trump and his allies.

According to Motherboard, a notorious hacking forum posted a database of the emails and usernames allegedly scrapped from GETTR on Tuesday.

Motherboard reported that it had seen the database and attempted to confirm if the users were registered to GETTR.

It said one person on the list confirmed they were registered to GETTR and three other emails on the list were already registered with the app.

The database was posted into an online forum and found by Alon Gal, the co-founder, and CTO of cybersecurity firm Hudson Rock, who told Motherboard he believed the hack should be treated as a data breach.

"When threat actors are able to extract sensitive information due to neglectful API implementations, the consequence is equivalent to a data breach and should be handled accordingly by the firm and to be examined by regulators,” he said.

The database was also reported by The Daily Beast who said that the scrape had taken advantage of GETTR’s buggy API, or the underpinning of the app.

The latest reported hack comes after it was targeted on its official launch day, July 4.

The hack focused on GETTR's most popular verified users which included the app's founder Miller and Majorie Taylor-Greene.

Miller had his page taken over, Insider reported.

The accounts of Steve Bannon, Mike Bannon, Harlan Hill, and Sean Parnell were also hacked.

All of the profiles were changed to the one message which read: "@JubaBaghdad was here 🙂 ^^ free Palestine ^^."

Insider spoke with user @JubaBaghdad who allegedly claimed responsibility for the hack via a Twitter DM with the outlet.

When asked why they decided to target GETTR, they said it was "just for fun."

"They should not publish the website before making sure everything, or at least almost everything, is secure," they added.

He did not disclose how he took control of the accounts.

GETTR's CEO Jason Miller, told Insider: "You know you're shaking things up when they come after you.

"The problem was detected and sealed in a matter of minutes, and all the intruder was able to accomplish was to change a few user names.

"The situation has been rectified and we've already had more than half a million users sign up for our exciting new platform!"

GETTR is a new conservative social media platform founded by Trump’s team.

Due to the former president’s suspension, Trump’s team launched their own app which claims its mission is also to “promote common sense…challenge social media monopolies, and create a true marketplace of ideas.”

It is not clear what the former president's role in the site will be.

The platform is described on the app stores as a "non-bias social network for people all over the world.”

GETTR has not yet confirmed or denied the claims of the scrap of 90,000 usernames and email addresses.

Requests for comment from the site and found Miller were not returned.
