Grand National outsider backed as unlikely winner at 50/1 by racing expert
Grand National punters and casuals are frantically searching for tips ahead of the Grand National race at Aintree.
Come 5.15, Tiger Roll is certain to start the race as favourite.
Last year’s winner is aiming to equal the feat of Red Rum by winning two Grand Nationals in a row.
Due to its recent form, the horse has been given very short odds of 9-2, leading many punters to look elsewhere.
Sir AP McCoy told William Hill punters 50-1 horse Minella Rocco was worth an each-way bet.
And Racing Post expert tipster Pricewise has highlighted another 50-1 horse in a with a shout
Ballyoptic, ridden by Thomas Bellamy, has been backed by the tipster.
They said: “Irish trainers saddled five of the first six home last year and they have seven of the top ten in the weights this year, but at this stage I think it might be worth siding with one of the best trainers of staying chasers in Britain and Grand National specialist Nigel Twiston-Davies, who runs Ballyoptic.
“An unlucky second in the Scottish National last season, the nine-year-old has plenty of classy form including when defeating Bellshill and Balko Des Flos in a Grade 1 novice hurdle at Aintree and he beat Elegant Escape by 13 lengths on his chasing debut last season.
“Ballyoptic came down in the Becher Chase on his reappearance but had jumped really well up until getting in too close.
“He had a rushed preparation for the Welsh National but ran respectably in the circumstances under a big weight and Aintree has always been his target.”
These two are not the only outsiders backed for glory at Aintree.
A betting aggregator, which studies all previous winners of the historic race, pinpointed a horse at 100-1 as having the best chance.
A Toi Phil, which has since been backed to 66-1, fits the criteria of weight, and owner name.
