A grandma has been filmed celebrating her 80th birthday by smoking what is a reportedly a cannabis cigarette with her grandchildren – diving opinions online.

Mateo Bossi shared the video of his grandma – who wasn't named – wearing a glittering tiara and a gold top while having a party with her family on her 80th birthday in Argentina.

In the clip, the elderly woman is seen laughing and taking two tokes from a cigarette, which her grandson claims has cannabis inside, as the party-goers record her on their phones and sing “happy birthday”.

Her young relatives instruct her to inhale the smoke and tell her that otherwise, it is no fun, according to local media.

Talking in Spanish, the elegant 80-year-old then starts to walk away and tells her family: “I am going to have a wine.”

The video was shared with the message: “My grandmother celebrated being 80 years old and as a gift she smoked a joint with her grandchildren. Best grandmother.”

The controversial clip has since gone viral, with more than 1.1million views and more than 98,900 likes.

Bossi also shared a photo of the moment with the caption: “Look at this relaxing face, bro, please”.

He received some criticism for his post and responded that “the thing is not that she is smoking a joint but at 80 years old she could be open-minded, try new things, be happy and laugh”.

An irritated viewer commented: “Good for her birthday, but making her smoke? That is wrong."

Someone else added: “Pathetic, there is no need… this is how society is nowadays."

“It is officially declared that she is the queen of substances and elegance,” said a supporter.
