A Google Maps user joked that a remote island inhabited by reclusive tribe is "the perfect vacation spot" after the site suggested there is a supermarket and beach bar there.

North Sentinel Island, in the Bay of Bengal, is home to the Sentinelese, an indigenous tribe in voluntary isolation.

The tribespeople made headlines in 2018 when they killed an American missionary who was trying to convert them to Christianity.

Now according to Google Maps the remote island features a branch of supermarket chain Walmart and as well as a beach bar.

Many users of the popular site asked on Reddit whether "angry tribespeople" were included in the "perfect vacation spot", while another quipped: "Definitely no cannibals around."

One more said: "Honestly looks like a generic resort commercial. Come visit! The locals will greet you as soon as you arrive."

"Happy to see they finally added a Walmart there. Long overdue," another joked.

The Sentinelese tribe are an unconnected indigenous tribe and have been designated a Patricularly Vulnerable Tribal Group and a Scheduled Tribe.

The Government of India declared North Sentinel Island a tribal reserve and prohibited travel within three nautical miles (5.6km) of it.

There is uncertainty as to the group's size, with estimates ranging between 15 and 500 individuals, but most reckon there are between 50 and 200 people there.

There have been attempts to contact the Sentinelese over the years.

In 2018, John Allen Chau, a 26-year-old missionary, was killed in November 2018 after travelling to North Sentinel Island in a bid to convert the tribespeople to Christianity.

He paid two fishermen to take him close to the island before paddling a kayak from the boat to the island. After a number of trips Chau was shot and killed by the Sentinelese with arrows.

The fishermen who had ferried Chau to the island later observed Sentinelese tribesmen dragging a body along the beach and burying it.

On the Google Maps thread, one user said: "I should go there with someone, get him killed and sue for misinformation."

Another quipped: "Still safer than a trip to Chicago."

One more added: "I definitely advise going there, especially if you are white and Christian. Totally unrelated question: can I have all your stuff when you die."
