Girl, 12, facing assault charges for ‘throwing acid on girl, 11, at playground’

A 12-year-old girl is facing assault charges after allegedly throwing acid on the face of a fellow schoolgirl at a playground.

Victim Deaira Summers was playing with siblings and cousins at a playground near her home in Detroit, Michigan, when she was reportedly caught in the middle of a scuffle.

The fight was between her aggressor and Deaira's family, reports said. The youngster suffered second-degree burns on her back, legs and arms when the other child allegedly turned on her in the July 9 attack, according to Deaira's mum.

The 12-year-old appeared in court Tuesday for a pretrial hearing, a news release from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Reports state that the youngster has been charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm and felonious assault.

Dominique Summers, the victim's mum, told CNN affiliate WXYZ: "I feel like it was the most evil thing you could do to a kid and especially the fact that she was an innocent bystander.

"I hope she get what she deserve, and they all get what they deserve."

The mother added it now takes the youngster two hours to get dressed in the morning, as opposed to the usual 20 minutes.

"It takes about two hours to give her her medicine. I have to give her medication 30 minutes before she takes a bath," she added.

Reports stated the alleged aggressor's bond was set at $10,000 (£7,745).

The case is "extremely troubling," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy said.

"Instant horrible decision making can have lifelong effects on others. There is no excuse for this," Worthy said.
