Giant shark had head BITTEN OFF by even bigger beast in ‘cannibal Jaws’ attack

A fisherman discovered the huge severed shark’s head in the ocean off the coast near Sydney, Australia yesterday morning.

Trapman Bermagui – also known as Jason – was shark fishing off the coast of Bermagui, a town in New South Wales, when he picked up the mako shark head – weighing 100kg.

He is desperate to know what monster could have eaten the rest of the shark’s body.

He wrote on Facebook alongside a picture of a young man holding the huge head: “So this was all we got back of this monster mako.

“Unfortunately we didn’t see what ate it but must of been impressive!! The head was about 100kg.

“It was a crazy morning of shark fishing. Hoping to catch smaller sharks but just hooked big sharks that got eaten by bigger sharks again.”

A mako shark can grow up to 12ft long and weigh up to 570kg.

They are also the fastest of their species.

It would take an animal much bigger than this one to rip off its head.

The post has sparked theories as to what the decapitating beast could have been.

The finding could raise questions of the return of the megalodon shark, thought to be extinct.

The monstrous sea beast is thought to have died out nearly three million years ago – despite ruling the seas for over 20 million years unchallenged.

The prehistoric creature could grow up to 18 metres long.

They also had a bite more fierce than a tyrannosaurus rex and would eat other giant fish such as whales.

Some commenters had theories that a great white shark – or two – at a length of 20ft could have taken a bite of the mako Jason found.

Greg Doble thought more than one great white made the attack.

He said: “Great White more than one as well, you can see the smaller conveyor teeth outside major bite marks, not Orcas they tend to eat just the liver of large sharks and let the rest drop to the ocean floor.”

Aaron Smith agreed, saying: “Looks like it been hit by two sharks to me.”

Meanwhile Shamus Johnston thought it was a tiger shark: “Big tiger shark for sure got ya mako!”

But Damien thought otherwise: “Doubt it was a shark that ate it, probably an orca.”
