Germany shooting: Devastated witness describes horror moment he received call from victims

Late on Wednesday night, a shooter killed at least nine people in a shooting frenzy as victims at two shisha bars in Hanau, on the outskirts of Frankfurt, were shot at. Speaking to the BBC, a man who understood his father and brother may have been close by, explained what he saw when he arrived at the scene. He said: “I got a call from a colleague that there had been a shooting attack here at the kiosk and I drove straight here.

“I thought my father might have been affected, and my little brother too.

“They run the kiosk, I don’t have much to do with it.

“Then I saw them both, but of course they were horrified.

“They were crying.

“Everybody’s shocked.”

It comes as local MP Katja Leikert delivered an impassioned response after learning of the attack.

Writing on Twitter, she said: “On this terrible night in Hanau I send those close to the victims all my strength and heartfelt condolences.

“Hopefully the injured recover swiftly.

“It is a horrific scenario for us all.
