Full Moon July 2019: What is the Buck Moon? Why is so special this year?

Why is the Buck Moon special this year?

One of the reasons the Buck Moon 2019 will be special is because a partial lunar eclipse will darken parts of the Moon.

The eclipse will peak at 10.30pm BST, which is when the moon will cross the Earth’s umbra, or darkest shadow.

This will be viewable in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia, but not the US.

It will also be special because it falls on the 50th anniversary of NASA’s Apollo 11 mission.

Apollo 11 was the first spaceflight which landed humans on the Moon.
