Police are dealing with an incident on London Bridge with reports of shots fired

Police in London said Friday they are "dealing with an incident" in central London, after they were called to a stabbing at premises close to London Bridge. "Emergency services attended, including officers from the Met," the Metropolitan Police said in a tweet. "A man has been detained by police. We believe a number of people have been injured." The tweet said more information was to follow. The BBC said its reporter had heard shots fired. London Bridge was the site of a terrorist attack in June of 2017.

4.5% GDP growth rate unacceptable, worrisome: Manmohan Singh

Manmohan said “toxic combination of deep distrust, pervasive fear and a sense of hopelessness in our society” is stifling economic activity and growth.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Friday the GDP growth rate of 4.5% was unacceptable and worrisome, and urged his successor Narendra Modi to set aside “deep-rooted suspicion” of society and nurse India back to harmonious, mutually trustworthy society that can help the economy soar.

Delivering his valedictory address at a national conclave on economy, Mr. Singh said mutual trust is the bedrock of societal transactions fostering economic growth, but “our social fabric of trust, confidence is now torn and ruptured”.

He said the “toxic combination of deep distrust, pervasive fear and a sense of hopelessness in our society” is stifling economic activity and growth.

Marion McClinton Dies: Broadway Director Of August Wilson Plays Was 65

Stage director Marion McClinton, who staged for Broadway two of August Wilson’s plays and Regina Taylor’s Drowning Crow, died yesterday in St. Paul, Minn. He was 65.

The New York Times reports that McClinton died of kidney failure.

With credits in both Off Broadway and regional theater, McClinton directed the Broadway productions of Wilson’s King Hedley II, a 2001 staging that brought the director a Tony Award nomination, and, in 2003, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

In 2004, he directed the Broadway production of Taylor’s Drowning Crow.

Off Broadway credits include Cheryl L. West’s Jar the Floor in 1999 and in 2000 a revival of Wilson’s Jitney.

McClinton directed many regional theater productions, with a particular focus on the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, where he lived.

    Walt Disney’s (DIS) Frozen 2, the sequel to its 2013 blockbuster, is expected to record a strong domestic opening of over $100 million this weekend.

    Frozen 2 will become the 10th animated film to debut with over $100 million and the first animated film outside the summer window to hit the mark.

    Frozen 2 is already breaking pre-sales records according to movie ticket sites Fandango and Atom. The film has eclipsed first day pre-sales for all other animated films in history.

    Frozen 2 will also debut in most major markets worldwide this weekend, including China, and is expected to gross $220 million in its international launch.

    In Frozen 2, Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel reprise their roles of Princess Anna and Queen Elsa. They will embark on a new journey that goes beyond their homeland of Arendelle, and this time Anna will be joining Elsa on the adventure.

    The film currently holds a 78% percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to 90% for the 2013 movie.

    The first Frozen, which opened domestically on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving in 2013, set a holiday record with a five-day haul of $93 million, including $67 million for the three-day weekend.

    The movie went on to earn over $400 million at the domestic box office and over $1.27 billion worldwide to become the top-grossing animated film of all time. The movie also won the Oscar for best animated feature film.
