Freezing rain on the way for Barrie, Orillia, Collingwood: Environment Canada

A special weather statement is in effect for the Barrie, Orillia, Midland and Collingwood areas.

Environment Canada issued the statement on Tuesday, saying freezing rain is expected to hit southern Ontario on Wednesday night as a large, low-pressure system moves towards the great lakes.

The weather agency says snow will arrive Wednesday afternoon and will quickly change over to freezing rain by Wednesday evening.

Environment Canada is warning untreated surfaces may become icy and slippery, making travel hazardous.

Officials say the freezing rain will change to rain or drizzle by Thursday morning as temperatures rise above zero.
