FIVE crooks have broken out of Hollesley Bay prison in the past month

Revealed: FIVE crooks have broken out of Hollesley Bay prison in the past month – as manhunt is launched for three who absconded in one day

  • The inmates went missing from HMP Hollesley Bay in Suffolk in the past month

Under-fire HMP Hollesley Bay has five prisoners who are still on the run after absconding over the past month.

Joshua Lewis Terry, Levi Mitchell, Aidan McGuiness, Andrew Smith and Roger Simmons are all on the loose.

Yesterday Suffolk Police warned the public not to approach Terry and Mitchell after they were found to have disappeared from HMP Hollesley Bay.

The pair were discovered gone the same day that another inmate from the prison, McGuiness, was reported missing.

And on September 28, Smith – who was serving a 18 year sentence for grievous bodily harm – went walkabout.

On September 26, police said Roger Simmons had been granted a period of temporary home leave and was due to return to the prison, but failed to do so

Police received a report on September 28 that Andrew Smith, 37, previously from the Berkshire area, had been reported missing.

Police have said they are also searching for Aidan McGuiness, a prisoner who absconded from the same facility just hours earlier

The day before that burglar Simmons, 47, also vanished.

News of the five prisoners on the run are bound to raise serious questions about their suitability for that kind of prison.

Terry, who is 29 years old, was serving a two year and four month sentence for affray, threatening a person with a blade/pointed article in a public place and theft. Mitchell, who is 39 years old, had been serving a sentence for multiple burglaries.

The criminals were reported to police as missing from the Category D men’s prison and Young Offender Institution near Woodbridge in Suffolk at 7pm on Saturday evening.

The pair were found to have gone the same day that another inmate from the prison complex was reported missing.
